2022

Competitive analysis, journey mapping, prototyping, site mapping, user flows, and wireframing

Intro

Arizona Filmmakers is a local group that gives a place for people in the film industry to connect, learn, and grow. The goal of Arizona Filmmakers was to create a database of filmmakers. Industry professionals can view profiles created by cast, crew, and companies in this database. With a subscription, producers, and companies can also use this database to conduct full-featured searches.

Problem

Currently, local freelancers, producers, and businesses don’t have one central online network to connect and search for business in this industry.

Hypothesis

If we offer a free source for freelancers and businesses to list their talent then companies and producers will pay to use our platform to search and network with local professionals because we will have an efficient and legitimate searchable database.

After our initial workshop we identified three user groups: Free, freelance, business

Before the project, the assumption was only two user groups would exist, by leading the kickoff workshop with the client we found we needed to design around three user groups. This helped us shape the rules of each membership level for the entire platform which was critical for this project.

Through market research, we identified common practices giving us information that served as a foundation for how our search feature and its results will operate

Viewing relevant competitors provided insight into effective strategies without using up too time in our budget. One of the business's main concerns was the time and budget so being quick and dirty was important in our process.

Creating a sitemap early on in web platform development helped us remain quick and dirty while organizing information

Spending excessive time on wireframing and making changes later due to poor initial planning of information architecture can be time consuming. Site mapping allowed stakeholders an early chance to shape their platform, which made them happy to be more involved in the creation of their "baby".

By implementing a more visual user flow, we achieved enhanced workshop efficiency and expedited iteration processes

Since the mid-fi wireframes offered quicker iterations, I put them into flows to share them with stakeholders so they could easily understand where each action to the user while on their own time.

Due to time constraints and the absence of a finalized branding direction, my focus was polishing the search page membership wall, given its significant importance to AZF

Given the home page's role as AZF's value proposition to new users, I prioritized showcasing the visual design within the limited remaining time

Outcomes

After incorporating all suggestions and corrections, the website was deemed ready for development by the stakeholders. They tasked their developers with creating the experience while the branding was still being decided. The budget soon dried up and the client put this project on pause indefinitely.

A goal was set since outcomes were not attainable

An initial goal set together was to bring on 1000 users within the first month of launch and then grow the platform by 2.5%+ MoM.

Let's work together!
